The traditional ways of mindfulness as taught in Buddhism do not fit well with our Western view of life. Why? We are taught to think positive about our world, to see opportunity in our life. All that we have been taught is diametrically opposite to the Buddhist world view. Where you and I strive to add “things” into our life, the way of the Buddha teaches that over indulgence and lusting after external things is at the heart of human suffering. The way out from under human suffering involves a lifetime of practicing mindfulness. Below are illustrations of this Buddhist approach.
