A few years ago there were a series of TV ads for the American Cancer Society. The message delivered is among the best examples of the power in a single word. That word:


ACCEPTANCE

“The act of taking, receiving, or acknowledging something that is.”


The message: “I have cancer, Cancer doesn’t have me!”



WHAT ACCEPTANCE ISN’T  . .

It isn’t giving up

It isn’t giving in

It isn’t following the crowd

It isn’t doing what you’d rather do

It isn’t burying your head in the sand

THIS IS ACCEPTANCE


Among the purposes of the practice of Acceptance, Mindfulness & Buddhism is to show you an entirely different way of encountering your life & your world. Consider this; you cannot be proactive in your response to those people, events, situations, or circumstances that challenge who you are without first acknowledging that they exist. This is acceptance.
